Reading, Cycling, Cooking (and eating)

Work of art, literature, or music that you would recommend:
Literature-anything by Phillip K. Dick, William Gibson, or Robert Anton Wilson; Music- anything by Little Feat (especially the Lowell George period albums). Movies- Evil Dead movies

Person who influenced you the most:
There were two psychology professors in my undergraduate program who made an impact on me as a student. One made psychology enjoyable, the other made it demanding and challenging. It was the latter who ended up having the greatest influence on me as a professional. In my doctoral studies, my dissertation chair gave me many opportunities to learn and grow professionally.

Why you do what you do:
I enjoy sharing what I know and helping others master important skills, especially when they begin with little confidence in their abilities.

What you want to give to your students?
A challenge at which they can succeed. A way of seeing themselves as professionals who can add to the knowledge of their profession. The joy of a difficult task mastered.

Why are you at UL Lafayette:
When asked why he had become a bank robber, Willie Sutton replied- "Why do I rob banks? That's where the money is."

A favorite quote or anecdote:
Albert Einstein was often asked to explain the general theory of relativity. "Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour," he once declared. "Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity!"
