About Us

The Department of Counseling at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette offers the Master of Science degree with concentrations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. The department consists of five full time faculty members and several adjuncts. About 30 students are accepted into the program each fall.

Students enrolled in Clinical Mental Health Counseling complete a curriculum that meets the educational requirements for licensing as a Professional Counselor in Louisiana (LPC). Those completing the School Counseling concentration meet the educational requirements for certification as a School Counselor K-12 by the Louisiana Department of Education. The curricula for both concentrations allow you to further customize your studies through electives, so you can explore areas like family counseling, play therapy, and group counseling.

Our department is housed at the Cecil J. Picard Center for Child Development and Lifelong Learning at 200 E. Devalcourt St. in the University's Research Park. Faculty offices and the Clinic for Counseling and Professional Development (CCPD), administered and staffed by department faculty and interns, is located at the Picard Center as well.

The program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling are both accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) until October 31, 2022.
