Working with the students to achieve their academic and career goals. Area of Scholarship or Expertise: Eating disorders and teaching of psychology for scholarship. Houma, LA Houma LA is my hometown and it is unique in its Mardi Gras parades (they just throw more in Houma) and its growth in population since Katrina evacuees resettled there. What was your first job? What did you learn from it? I helped to repair fine crystal. I learned to be careful. Outside Interests: Cycling, Reading, Hiking, Dancing Work of art, literature, or music that you would recommend: Mulan as a metaphor for a woman’s struggle in a man’s world Lion King for family values and responsibility Person who influenced you the most: My professors in my doctoral program influenced me as an academician; my internship supervisors influenced me as a practicing psychologist. Why you do what you do: I enjoy the intellectual stimulation of an acedemic position as well as the opportunity to shape the future of our field by providing quality training and education to my students. What you want to give your students: The skill to think critically, to learn independently, and to provide excellent service to their clients. Person you'd like to meet: Freud and Skinner. William James would be interesting, as would Wundt. I have met Beck and Ellis when I attended AABT (now ABCT) conferences in the past. That was really special to see them attending and presenting. Why you are at UL Lafayette: I came to UL Lafayette to be back in Cajun Country and closer to my family. Favorite anecdote: When students thank me for challenging them, it makes it worth the additional work I have to do to make it challenging and growh-oriented. Curriculum Vita |
