What do you love about UL Lafayette? The beautiful oak-filled campus, the lovely new Library, the wonderful students, and the opportunity to teach therapy to budding therapists. Area of Scholarship or Expertise: Anthetic Psychology, Anthetic Couple Therapy, Depression, Anxiety, Self-Esteem Issues Courses routinely taught: Theories of Counseling, Helping Relationships, Group Processes, Orientation to the Vocational Rehabilitation Process A published work: Disarming your Inner Critic (2000) Anthetics Institute Press The Inner Critic as a key element in working with adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse, Bulletin of the Menninger Clinic "Anthetic Inner Critic Work in Relapse Prevention," Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly , (2006) What is your hometown and what is unique about it? Lafayette, LA - Cajun culture and Cuisine; boomtown; home of Anthetic Psychology Center What was your first job and what did you learn from it? First counseling job - Rehabilitation Counselor, Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (1978-1985); I learned all the basics of creating rapport with clients; fundamental knowledge of mental illness and addiction recovery; I learned how to love my clients. Outside Interests: I love to go to Libraries, eat at restaurants, sit by the waters of the Gulf or Intracoastal canal and discuss psychological & therapeutic ideas. Work of art, literature, or music that you would recommend: The life & work of Maria Montessori; The enchanted art of Real Musgrave & Christiansen Person who influenced you the most: James Elliott, my husband and mentor in Anthetic Therapy & Anthetic Spirituality Work of art, music, literature you recommend: A Few Good Men (movie) Watch it this time as a masterful case study of individuation. It’s fabulous. Why you do what you do: It’s my passion to train counselors to help clients with transformative therapeutic work. Person you would like to meet: Karen Horney; (when my husband first created Anthetic Psychology, he was greatly influenced by her ideas. I’d like to sit and discuss our ideas. I wish she were still alive.) What do you want to give your students? A transformational experience that sets them free of Inner Critic constrictedness, liberates love, caring, & wisdom. Why you are at UL Lafayette: It has been a hothouse for professional expression and growth- it gives me the freedom to do what I love. A favorite quote or anecdote: "It is a high inducement to the individual to ripen, to become something in himself... it is a great exacting claim upon him, something that chooses him out and calls him to vast things."
