What do you love about UL Lafayette?
My colleagues and students. My office in Girard Hall. The small southern town setting. The food. The music. The fact that it is well situated for doing outdoor things like camping, boating and fishing.

Area of Scholarship or Expertise:
The transformation of psychological function or meaning. Psychological testing in general. The assessment and treatment of substance abuse disorders.

Greenway, D.E. & Dougher, M.J. (1996). Transfer of consequential functions via stimulus equivalence: Generalization to different testing contexts. The Psychological Record. 46, 131 - 143

Current Project:

What is your hometown and what is unique about it?

High Point, North Carolina. Good tobacco, fine furniture and the best pork barbeque in the world.

What was your first job and what did you learn from it?
I harvested tobacco as a kid. After High School, I joined the Marine Corps and served with guys who represent some of the best people our country has to offer. I was given a good work ethic and how to work with others.

Outside Interests:
Science Fiction. Fishing. Yard Sales. Home Improvement Projects. Currency and Securities Markets.

Work of art, literature, or music that you would recommend:
Movie: A Love Song for Bobby Long (set in New Orleans) and The Big Lebowski by the Cohen brothers
Book: Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham and Time Enough for Love by Robert Heinlein
Music: The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd

Person who influenced you the most:
Steve Hayes, an undergraduate professor, and Mike Dougher, a graduate professor

Why you do what you do:
To have fun and satisfy my curiosity about things.

Person you would like to meet:
The famous people I've met, mostly in psychology, tend to be into self-promotion and become boring and draining very quickly. Mostly, I like to meet my friend, Rick Perkins, for a meal and conversation.

What do you want to give your students?
A sense of wonder and inquisitiveness about the world.

A favorite quote or anecdote:
"It's 1941 in Casablanca. What time is it in New York? (pause) I bet they're asleep in New York. I bet they're asleep all over the world." Rick in Casablanca
